  • Overview

    This role reports to the Functional (Core/Homeroom) Tool Design & Integration group which is a component of the Production Engineering Organization of Triumph Aerospace Structures. With direct oversight from the Functional Tooling Manager this position will have the primary responsibilities of preparing tooling proposals, coordinating proposal responsibilities and deliverables with the Business Development Group, interfacing with the manufacturing facility of choice to ensure process/technology concurrence and interfacing with the Production Technology group and Production Engineering Leadership to develop technologies and strategies consistent with a World Class Tooling organization. Tertiary responsibilities will include the development and implementation of a robust estimating process, procedures, metrics and standards within the Tooling organization consistent with the strategy of the Production Engineering department.  As a subject matter expert, the candidate will support strategic initiatives related to new product introduction, process engineering improvements, and manufacturing transitions.  The successful candidate will exhibit qualities of proven cost, quality and safety performance in the aerospace tooling and tool design disciplines, a strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and procedures combined with proven successful interpersonal and strategic thinking skills.  The successful candidate must also be comfortable preparing and delivering presentations and delivering status on proposals to all levels of leadership up to and including executives.


    • Develop financial estimates for tool design, tool integration and tool fabrication in varying levels of detail (Rough order of Magnitude to Firm Fixed Pricing) consistent with the Business Development Groups’ strategy for a given proposal and Production Engineering’s’ strategy for technology and implementation.
    • Prepare supporting documentation consistent with proposal strategies working with Technical Authors.
    • Interface with multiple groups including but not limited to Business development, Manufacturing Engineering, Production, Industrial Engineering, Technical Writing and Strategic Sourcing
    • Create a library of standardized tool estimating documents, go byes, similar to’s etc.
    • Create policies and procedures to guide tool estimating within Production Engineering
    • Create metrics designed to monitor estimating success rate (ie. Award % and actual performance) KPI for tool estimating
    • Prepare and present status documentation related to current estimating efforts and performance to Production Engineering leadership
    • Constructively contribute to tooling strategy, internal design requirements, vendor selection, etc.
    • Understand capabilities across multiple Triumph sites including site technical ability, available site technology and site technology plans.
    • Identify industry trends and vendor capabilities to employ in tool design, equipment, software, techniques and standard work to promote industry-leading tooling solutions
    • Ensure processes and procedure compliance with business objectives and local, federal and industry regulations



    Basic Qualifications:


    • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline (or related Technical degree) with 8+ years of experience in an aerospace (or similar) manufacturing environment
    • Demonstrable proficiency of manufacturing principles, theories, and concepts in the Tool Design discipline with general knowledge of other related disciplines
    • Ability to act independently and be the key contributor to estimating projects– identify critical paths, develop and execute work around and/or mitigation plans for issues and deliver high quality/accurate estimates on time.
    • Team oriented w/ ability to both participate and lead small-medium projects through all phases
    • Highly organized and efficient contributor that can deal well w/ high-pressure situations, shifting priorities, and competing interests
    • Exceptional communicator with the ability to gauge audience and tailor message
    • Proficient writing reports, conducting meetings and using MS office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio)
    • Travel to other Triumph Group sites, suppliers and customers as required. (30-50%)


    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Previous aerospace equipment/tool estimating or procurement experience
    • Experience with CATIA v4, CATIA v5, ENOVIA, TeamCenter, SAP and MES systems.
    • LEAN, Green Belt, Black Belt, and/or Project Management Certification
    • Program/Project Management and indirect reports
    • Will travel between multiple sites (30-50%)
