Based in Yakima WA, Triumph Fluid, Power and Actuation employs approximately 300 personnel. The Company’s key products and services include design, development and manufacturing of hydraulic actiona systems and components.

 

The Principal Engineer will be responsible for: ensuring component designs meet all airworthiness requirements, ensuring that best design practices are used throughout the Engineering Department, providing responses to customer technical inquiries, assisting all engineers with technical solutions to NPI designs, failure investigations, warranty issues, etc., enforcing adherence to FP&A-Y Tollgate, and Design Processes, support in-house and sub-contract manufacturing with timely turn-around on concessions, inquiries, etc. Create a flexible multi-skilled team with excellent relationships between customers, suppliers other FP&A-Y departments.

Responsibilities

  • Check component engineering design work for accuracy and conformance to applicable requirements, including airworthiness, manufacturability, cost, and schedule.
  • Coach, instruct, and support Design Department personnel, as well as reviewing performance of direct reports.
  • Participate and chair Design Reviews, to critically review submitted designs from an air worthiness perspective, define engineering approaches and sign-offs on deliverables.
  • Participate in customer reviews and provides technical direction wherever required.
  • Participate in management reviews, identify risks and provide mitigation plans
  • Directs various teams, design, stress etc. including suppliers, to ensure completion of various activities as identified in the Statement of Work.
  • Coach, instruct, and support Design Department personnel through Root Cause and Corrective Action investigations for: In-service failures, qualification test failures, or warranty claim issues.
  • Assist the Engineering Site Leader with the review of the Engineering Department manpower requirements and participate in locating and interviewing new personnel.
  • Provide the Engineering Site Leader with a regular update of design/proposal activity, trends, and problem areas, and participate, as requested, in any follow-up that is necessary.
  • Serve as technical advisor for FP&A-Y less experienced engineers. Provide direction and recommendations as each situation may require.
  • Interface with other Engineering and company departments to assure that all technical aspects of each job are being addressed.
  • Interface with other FP&A-Y departments/activities to insure concurrency of design philosophies with company strategy.
  • Communicate with customers and other FP&A-Y departments, as necessary, keeping the Engineering Site Leader informed of all developments.
  • Ensure that Design Department personnel and teams comply with the required design review processes as outlined in applicable Engineering and Company Processes and Procedures.
  • Assist Program Managers with ensuring that the Engineering department completes the various stages/gates in a timely manner to support program needs.
  • Serve as technical coordinator during the proposal stage of projects, and provide technical guidelines and direction for the proposal package.
  • Participate in all pre-pricing and proposal reviews to assure that proper scheduling and content are included.
  • Participate in the development of the FP&A-Y Technology Roadmap.
  • Participate in industry Technical Forums representing FP&A-Y.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Engineering from four-year college or university
  • At least 10 years experience in design engineering, preferably in the aerospace field.
  • In depth knowledge of hydraulic actuation related products.
  • At least 3 years of management or leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Must be able to travel up to 25% domestic and internationally.
